Gamecube on the Wii

I got my Wii a little while back, and I was always vaguely aware that it was backward compatible with Gamecube games. This was never much of an important fact regarding the console, but ever since I had a glimpse at what games were released for the older console, I have become obsessed with getting gamecube games working on my wii.
So, in typical techie fashion, I used logic and thought: "That's why they probably made the classic controller, so you could play all these old games."

Apparently not.

Well. It turns out that you can play old games, but only the ones that were launched under the virtual console and WiiWare.

So, unless you have a nostalgic flair for the older Nintendo crap, the classic controller is completely useless.

So now it is sitting on my shelf gathering dust.

Back to the quest.
So after a bit of research, I learn that you need the original gamecube controllers and memory cards if you want to play the old gamecube games. What an utter load of crap.

Now for someone who has never even seen a gamecube, I am forced to hunt for second hand equipment to take full advantage of my Wii.

But I am obsessed remember? So that;s exactly what I do.
So after registering on eBay I found a purple one and hit the "Buy it Now!" button. It should be here some time before we move to the moon.

In the mean time I am trying to get every star on the Super Mario Galaxy game.
This has to be the most fun, bang-for0buck, suprise-at-every-corner game I have EVER played.

It is absolutely flawlessly amazing. I am not going to try and rate. Everyone has already done that, but if you have a Wii, and you are looking for the definitive title, you need to get Super Mario Galaxy.

So, back onto gamecube.
The title that got me interested in it was Batman Begins. It looks cool. I watched some Youtube videos of it and really liked what I saw.

I did some further research to see what other games were available. I compiled a "must have top ten" list which I plan to acquire. Here they are (This is in no particular order):

10)Resident Evil 4
9)Super Smash Bros. Melee
8) Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
7) Batman Begins (Got this!!!)
6) Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
5) Metroid Stuff
4) Viewtiful Joe (Looks like it could be fun)
3) Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (Maybe)
2) Soul Calibur II
1) ???? (Maybe a link game)

So not 10 in totality, but that's good. It leaves me chasing something. We will see. Maybe a Link title for the Gamecube?

When I am finally setup and working, I will let you know how cool the Batman Begins game is.

Later.
