Today I'm in a pretty bad fucking mood.
You see, I own an Android-powered device.
It's a great little phone, full touch screen, which is nice and fast and sensitive. The device itself isn't too sluggish and the Google integration is awesome.
It was one of the first Google-powered smart phones. It was released last year. In Android years, that's like 7 generations.
So let me put you in the picture.
My device, an HTC Magic, is running AndroidOS 1.5.
Currently version 2.2 is available, and Google is working on 3.0.
Upgrades to the newest version of the OS are available for the HTC Magic.
What foes this mean?
It means i'm fucked, because new software released on the Android market 10-to-1 does not run on version 1.5 of AndroidOS.
New Operating system features are not available to me, because there is no planned upgrade for the South African version of the phone.
Bugs that are prevalent in the current version of the OS will never be fixed, bugs that are driving me fucking nuts.
Sure, I can 'root' the thing, a procedure which allows me to load custom versions of whatever version of the Google OS, and which will solve my issue, but I don't feel that I should have to fuck with my phone to get a new version of an OS that the manufacturer should have made available to me in the first place.
In short, it's a waste of time.
And this saddens me.
You know, when I upgraded, I thought I had a phone that would be awesome for a long time.
Sorta like the Sony Erricsson W550 I had before it.
That was a great little phone, and it's functionality kept me going on it for four years. The only reason I gave it up was because it was scratched to shit and the battery was finished.
Now I have an expensive heirloom in my pants (and I'm not referring to my cock) and my contract with Vodacum isn't up for renewal for another year and a bit.
That's enough to turn me into an iphone user.
I’ve always said that those “fancy” phones were gay and bound to fuck up sooner or later. Case and Point :P
